Hailing from Atlanta, 112 was one of the many 90s boy groups. They came around the mid to late 90s, so they were right at the beginning of the whole video girl era that I dislike. Even in one of the featured videos below there are women on stripper poles *sigh*... Even though that makes me give them a side eye, they were (are) talented. Even though they were associated with Bad Boy Entertainment and produced by Sean P. Diddy (or whatever he has made up this week) Combs, they can sing. They had the dance moves down and the guy "Slim" had range. I liked it... they are on my iPod, I am not ashamed to admit! :) Their songs are very suggestive-- but unlike today, they don't say everything. Just innuendo, strong innuendo! LOL What's funny is I have a very vivid memory about the members of 112... Picture this: Columbus Ohio 1995. hahaha- seriously!! We were at Northland Mall, which I don't think is around anymore. Momma Mox and I were shopping and in comes all four members of 112, who were in town for a concert. Holy crap!! I talked to them (of course) and got a hug from Slim. We were leaving the store and Momma Mox was giving me a lecture about hugging random guys I don't know. I think it went something like this: "412, 112, I don't care- you don't know where he has been!" LOL Gosh, I love that woman!!
Cupid
Peaches and Cream :) (This is a song about... adult situations!)
*So sweet I can't forget, so good girl, you make me sweat.
*I can see you over there, just chilling with your girlfriends. Can't believe you're by yourself, you should be here with me, chilling with me, drinking with me, freaking with me...
It's Over Now
*Baby, it's a shame we gotta go through this. We can't even talk, girl we don't even kiss. I never would have thought we'd be breaking up like this, but it's over now.
Anywhere
-Another suggestive song, but really how cool do they sound now, singing about doing it on a water bed? LOL
*I wanna talk back to her, make love to her. I wanna hear you scream my name.
*We can make love in the bedroom, floating on top of my water bed; I'm kissing you, running my fingers through your hair. In the hallway, making our way beside the stairs;
*I can love you in the shower, both of our bodies dripping wet; On the patio, we can make a night you won't forget; On the kitchen floor as I softly pull your hair. We can do it anywhere... (gasp)
I was inspired to post this after reading all the "reviews" on the Backstreet Boys(BSB)/New Kids On The Block (NKOTB) performance on some music awards show. Twitter was all abuzz about the boy bands coming together and putting on a show. I'll admit it- I LOVED me some Joey McIntyre and Jordan Knight. Wooo, those falsetto voices. Yum. AND I partied in the same bar as AJ McLean when I was in London in 1999. They were cool. You could not have grown up in the late 80s, early 90s without seeing a NKOTB button and some screaming girls in the mall. And you would not have made it through the early 90s without seeing some BSB video or screaming girls on MTV. *sigh* People actually think that a boy band was a novel idea. They thought that there really hadn't been a boy band since the Jackson 5... and boy were they wrong.
I am old enough to remember THE boy band of the 80s (and 90s). These boys were (are) so SMOKING hot. I still know the words to songs that were released the year my sister was born. Five chocolate boys from Boston used to sing to me. I played their cassettes (YES) when I was drifting to sleep, getting dressed, studying, whatever!! I LOVED New Edition. Wooo- Ralph Tresvant- so sexy, even though he had quite the overbite. You couldn't tell me that he was not the best thing walking! That man is 42 and you STILL can't tell me that he isn't beautiful. My sister had a thing for Ronnie DeVoe- I still don't get it, but hey, to each his own! Even Bobby Brown was fresh faced and not a weirdo in the beginning. Let me tell you reader exactly how dedicated I was... My freshman and Sophomore years in COLLEGE, New Edition went on tour. Guess who saw them... TWICE!! LOL Whatevs- those were my babies. I watched them grow up through music videos and there has NOT been one group that can magically transport me back to my youth like them.
R&B plus a little 80s hip hop. You know what? You can't be mad at that!! I think I should dust off my cassettes when I get home and bust a couple moves in my living room for old times sake! I feel like they aren't getting the respect they deserve... so here is my video montage.
In the early to mid 90s blue eyed soul boy bands were all the rage (read: Backstreet Boys, N*Sync headed up by the amazingly beautiful Justin Timberlake and 98 Degrees lead the equally luscious Nick Lachey). But that was not the first emergence of some lovely looking white men (and women) have broken through on the R&B charts (read: Simply Red, Michael Bolton, All 4 One, Color Me Badd) and obviously won't be the last. I have already shared my guilty pleasure with a few Jesse McCartney tracks- don't you judge me! :) There is some kid named Justin Bieber out there AND both Justin and Nick have both gone solo. Below are the guys that I listen to frequently on my iPod. My own little Blue Eyed Soul army! They pack a punch, and they make me smile.
First up: Andrew Belle - Native son of the Chicagoland area (Wheaton) - his music has been on Grey's Anatomy (how cool is that??) - Saw him in concert at Double Door this year- nice vocals and seems like an all around nice guy
Andy Davis - I *love* this guy, no seriously. I met him at Double Door and he was the sweetest. EVER. He should consider being my musical husband- I'm just saying. - Avid Tweeter (that makes me smile) - LOVE to hear him live - I know that this song is not new, but it makes my day better so here is Laugh So you Don't Cry
And because you have to see him live... here is a cover of At Last
Marc Broussard - he is all over this blog and I love him too - Native son of the Bayou state - Covered some Al Greene (and it was awesome) YouTube him immediately
Josh Hoge - Um, wow so hot... and he can sing? I'll take it!! - his cover of Ain't No Sunshine makes my heart palpitate- in a good way. - he is tattooed *fans self* So here are two videos of Josh
I am sure there are more Blue Eyed Soulful Saturdays ahead! :)
Why hot, black and bitter?
It all started out as a corny punchline to a joke. Someone asked my dad how he liked his coffee, his response? I like my coffee like I like my wife-- hot, black and bitter! Little did he know that also accurately describes me and my lovely personality! :)
